【Details】
With the rivalry between democratic and authoritarian regimes becoming increasingly apparent in recent years, the world has had to grapple with the intense topic of national security very quickly. This conflict is partly characterized by frequent disinformation campaigns and transnational repression. Nations are trying to exert their influence not only through their military might and economic coercion, but also through propaganda, often including uses of disinformation. Also, transnational repression has become increasingly widespread, as part of the tactics adopted by governments to undermine enemies abroad while strengthening the control of their own people. In order to understand and address these challenges, we believe that strengthening international cooperation and mutual learning are essential. As such, the Economic Security Research Program (ESRP) at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) is hosting a panel discussion. This event is funded by the U.S. Embassy Tokyo. Experts from Hong Kong, Uyghurs, Ukraine will discuss cases of disinformation campaigns and transnational repression.
