[SSJ: 6573] an aside
From: Michael Thies
Date: 2011/03/23
Greetings all. Forgive me for introducing a completely random subject, but at a time like this, with all of us glued to the TV and concerned for friends and family, perhaps a small distraction won't go completely amiss. A student in my department is writing an IR dissertation on U.S. interventions in foreign elections, and came to ask me about Japan. I told him that I have seen reference to CIA or other U.S. Gov't funding of the LDP back in the 1950s and 1960s, as I'm sure all of you have. But I couldn't put my finger on any specific reference, either primary documents or secondary accounts. I wonder whether the collective expertise here might help with a citation or two.
Thanks,
Mike
