The Council on International Educational Exchange's Center for Japanese Studies
is seeking a faculty member for the Spring 1996 Japanese Business and Society
Program / Japanese Studies Program

Course Title: Japanese Popular Culture

Course Description: This semester-long course discusses the role and
manifestations of culture in contemporary Japan. Depending on the instructor's
interests and areas of expertise, the course subject could be approached from a
number of view points, i.e. literary, fine arts, mass media, etc.

Dates: Semester = February - May, 1996. Class Meets Thursday afternoons, 1:30
- 4:30 (negotiable).

Language: English

Students: Approximately 20 undergraduate students from the US and
other countries; students receive US university credit for successful
completion.

Location: Waseda Hoshien, 2-3-1 Nishi-Waseda, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo

Salary: minimum of 500,000 Yen per course, a total of 42 class hours

Qualifications: Current faculty member at an institution of higher learning in
Japan or a visiting scholar in Japan, specializing in Japanese literature, art,
sociology or a related subject. Comfortable teaching in English.
