Title: After the Rupture: Japan and Europe in a Post-American World
Abstract: The marriages between America and its Japanese and European allies were never easy, but all sides gained from them. Now that America has turned hostile to us both, Japan and Europe share a predicament: we cannot live entirely independently of America, but nor can we trust it. Whether the Trump effect proves temporary or permanent, we need to find ways to become more autonomous and more collaborative with other nations. This lecture will explore our options, while placing the rupture of "the West" in a broad geopolitical context.
Venue: Ito Hall, Ito International Research Center (Hongo Campus, The University of Tokyo)
Registration: 300 seats (first-come-first-served basis) https://form.qooker.jp/Q/auto/ja/tcevent1126/reg/
