Opening to Teach Introduction to International Relations at Meiji Gakuin University
From: NMIDFORD Paul <paulmid@k.meijigakuin.ac.jp
Date: 2025/04/09
Dear Colleagues,
The Department of Global and Transcultural Studies at Meiji Gakuin University is looking for an instructor to teach Introduction to International Relations in English this fall at our Yokohama campus this fall. About one third of our students are non-Japanese or Japanese who graduated from high schools abroad or international high schools. This 2-credit course meets once a week.
Scheduling: It is possible to schedule the class any weekday, and you can mostly select the time (there are five class periods of 90 minutes each). In the case of this course, however, because our first- and second-year students have required Academic English Program courses in the morning, we prefer that this class is taught in the afternoon.
Here is what Meigaku offers for this course: "The salary will be about 25,000 to 30,000 yen per month (depending on experience and qualifications), and will be payable for six months, although teaching will only last about four months. Unfortunately, this position does not carry any entitlement to holidays, health insurance or pension. Travel expenses will be paid for a distance of up to 110 kilometers from the Totsuka campus. Please note that classes are scheduled to be held in person, not online, so there is no point applying if you live outside the Kantō district of Japan. Smoking is prohibited throughout the campus except in two specified areas well away from the main teaching and research areas, so there is no risk of second-hand smoking to non-smokers."
The candidate must have a doctorate in Political Science, or a closely related field, or have at least three years of teaching experience (not including TA experience). It is expected that the candidate has some background in theories of international politics.
Please contact me if you have any questions. If you are interested, please send me a CV and cover letter by no later than April 25th.
