The Centre for the Study of Global Japan at the University of Toronto will host a conference on May 23-24, 2025 on social scientific research related to Japanese politics and foreign policy, economy, and society. The conference will take place for a full day on May 23 and the morning on May 24.
Paper proposals are encouraged from scholars at all stages of their careers, although we particularly encourage submissions from early-career scholars. We also welcome participation from those who would like to serve as discussants. Aside from research presentations, the conference will include a discussion of the future of research on Japan and how to maximize scholarly and policy impact. One goal of the gathering will be to institutionalize an annual conference that will rotate among different universities in future years and serve as a forum for Japan scholars to share their research and receive feedback.

- You can indicate interest in participating as a discussant if you do not wish to present a paper.
- To maximize participation within budget constraints, we request that conference participants who are able to cover their travel expenses using their own research funds do so. We will cover travel expenses for participants who would not be able to participate otherwise, such as Ph.D. students and faculty with limited travel budgets.
