As 2025 begins, the arrival of a new US administration has brought the spotlight back on Indo-Pacific security. Despite the clear strategic imperatives which continue to drive increasing cooperation between the US and Japan, somehow doubt continues to linger about the future of US-Japan military cooperation and the direction of the US-Japan Alliance. Will the promised Japanese defense budget increases materialize? Should we expect major military threats in the region this year? How will the war in Ukraine affect the security situation in the Indo-Pacific? And what of the planned US command and control changes for its forces in Japan? A professional military officer and US-Japan Alliance manager will share his perspective on these critical Indo-Pacific security matters, and more.
Copies of the author's most recent book, Military Hegemony: the Search for Security Through Conquest will be available for sale by the author.
