Topic:
This lecture delves into the buried rivers of Tokyo, tracing the city's transformation from Edo--the historic 'City of Water'--to the modern metropolis it is today. While Tokyo may seem to have lost its intimate connection to its waterways, this bond has merely evolved into a more concealed and intricate relationship. Beneath the urban fabric lie culverted rivers, their traces now reimagined as long, narrow, meandering paths. These hidden corridors, exclusively pedestrian, weave through the city like secret arteries, revealing an unseen structure that silently holds Tokyo together.

About the Speaker:
Ivana's academic and professional journey has been centered at the intersection of urban research and architecture. She is currently a research fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies Southeast Europe, University of Rijeka. She gained her PhD from Meiji University in Tokyo where she was affiliated as a Research Assistant. The international practical experiences spand from Kengo Kuma and Nikken Sekkei Architects in Japan, Al Borde Arquitectos in Ecuador and Hochschule Wismar in Germany. Moreover, Ivana has been a senior associate in the Urban Planning Department at two municipalities and has been a faculty instructor in her hometown, Skopje.
