非核芸術の系譜：丸木美術館『原爆の図』を中心に

「私の働いている丸木美術館は、『原爆の図』を常設展示しています。『原爆の図』の作者である丸木位里は1995年に、丸木俊は2000年に亡くなっていますが、原爆体験をもとに、核と人類は共存できないと考え、その脅威を伝える絵画を描き続けました。丸木夫妻だけでなく、核の脅威に対抗する芸術表現は、これまで多くのアーティストによって受け継がれてきたのです。

しかし、それらの芸術が紹介される機会があまりに少ないということに、私は2011年3月の東日本大震災と福島第一原発事故が発生してからようやく気がつきました。そして、確かに存在する芸術の系譜を明らかにするため、それらを『非核芸術』と呼びました。『反核』（Anti-nuclear）が核の使用に反対するのに対し、『非核』（Non-nuclear）は核の存在そのものを否定するという意味です。『非核芸術』とは、核の脅威に抵抗するだけではなく、核を保有することに価値を置く社会の在り方そのものを再考する芸術と位置付けています。それは、すべての人間が人間らしく生き、誰にも抑圧されず、生命が脅かされることのない、普遍的な自由に向けての渇望なのです。」岡村幸宣

"The Maruki Gallery, where I work, permanently exhibits the Hiroshima Panels.The artists Maruki Iri and Maruki Toshi passed away in 1995 and 2000 respectively. Yet, based on the experience of the atomic bombing, they believed that it is not possible for nuclear weapons and technology and humanity to coexist, and continued to paint in order to convey that threat.

However, in 2011, after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Fukushima Nuclear Plant disaster, I finally realised that there were too few opportunities to introduce such art. And in order to make clear this historical lineage of this art which certainly did exist, I used the term 'non-nuclear art.'

In contrast to 'anti-nuclear,' which opposes the use of nuclear weapons and technology, "non-nuclear" has the meaning of denying their very existence. 'Non-nuclear art' not only resists the nuclear threat but is also positioned as art which reexamines the very nature of a society which places a value on the possession of nuclear weapons and technology.

This is a thirst for universal freedom, for a society in which all can live with human dignity, with no one oppressed, and with no threat to life itself." Excerpt from Okamura Yukinori's lecture.
