Greetings SSJ-Forum members,

On behalf of the Modern Japan History Association (mjha.org), we are extremely pleased to announce two brand new annual prizes for books and dissertations on Japan.

The 1st annual Modern Japan History Association Book Prize will be awarded in early 2024 to a book first published in 2022 substantially illuminating the history of modern and contemporary Japan (1868-present), as well as books exploring the historical roots of modern Japanese society and culture. Provided this condition is met, books from any academic discipline and books covering earlier eras of history are eligible. For more information click HERE.

In a similar vein, the 1st annual Modern Japan History Association Dissertation Prize will be awarded in early 2024 to a dissertation filed in 2022 substantially illuminating the history of modern and contemporary Japan (1868-present), as well as dissertations exploring the historical roots of modern Japanese society and culture. Provided this condition is met, dissertations from any academic discipline and books covering earlier eras of history are eligible. For more information click HERE.

Even if you do not have a book or dissertation from 2022, please help us get the word out to those who do, as well as to your editors and publicists at book publishers and presses. Moreover, we are committed to awarding these prizes every year for the foreseeable future, so please keep them on your radar for future books and dissertations!

On behalf of the MJHA Board of Directors,
