Japan
is facing multiple challenges as its workforce ages and population
declines, compounded by the disruption of the global pandemic. Japan
Inc's traditional methods are being forced to change in everything from
marketing to work style and administrative processes. COVID-19 has
further changed consumer behavior, e-commerce and logistics are upended,
and the way in which all businesses from large retailers to small
mom-&-pop shops reach their consumers is entering a new paradigm.
What are the trends, how big are the changes really, and how far along
is Japan in incorporating and embracing the new possibilities offered by
the "DX"?
Guest Speaker:
Evan Burkosky is an expert in Japan
market entry and digital transformation. As Country Manager for Dynamic
Yield, he brings 15+ years of e-commerce experience to improving
customer experience (CX) by digitalizing "omotenashi" service. His
career in Japan has included co-founding martech related startups,
working at digital marketing agencies, and helping several
martech-related software companies enter the market and scale up their
teams here. His focus has been on helping Japanese society through
innovations in sectors such as AI, machine learning, and automation
which are essential technologies to increasing productivity in the face
of an aging workforce and declining population.
Moderator:
Ulrike
Schaede is Professor of Japanese Business at GPS, UC San Diego, and the
Director of JFIT. Her research focuses on Japan's changing corporate
strategies, including business culture, change management, and business
organization. Her 2020 book "The Business Reinvention of Japan" analyzes
how Japanese companies are responding to the rise of China and the
changing global competition.
We hope to see you there!
