Session Abstract:
More
than three decades since Doi Moi in 1986, Viet Nam has implemented an
independent, multidirectional, and diversified foreign policy. With its
rapid economic growth, internal stability, and enhanced contribution to
international and regional affairs, Viet Nam has increasingly been seen
as an important player in East Asia. This lecture provides an overview
of the changing patterns of Viet Nam's current worldview and the key
pillars shaping Viet Nam's foreign policy in the twenty-first century.
These include, among others, proactive international integration,
penchant for multilateralism and the rules-based international order,
independent and balanced strategies vis-à-vis great powers, as well as
engagement with the regional security order and strategic response to
regional challenges such as China's rise and the South China Sea
disputes. The lecture will also provide updates on the latest
developments in Vietnam's foreign policy orientation following the
recently concluded 13th Party Congress.

Please feel free to promote this virtual event to your students interested in Viet Nam.
