The 1945-2015 geopolitical order has come unglued. The rise of China and the increasing unreliability of the United States have raised serious questions about Japan's national security and international influence. While attention has focused primarily on Tokyo's relations with Beijing and the capitals of East and Southeast Asia, there are more fundamental problems around the world that will disproportionately affect Japan's ability to exert influence abroad.
