From: Manzenreiter Wolfram <wolfram.manzenreiter@univie.ac.at>
Date: 2019/04/30

With apologies for cross-postings, please allow me to direct your attention toward a recent job opening in Japanese Studies at the University of Vienna, Department of East Asian Studies.

The University of Vienna invites applications for a fulltime position of a University Assistant at the Post doc-level.

The term of employment is limited to six years. Starting date is negotiable but should not be later than September 2019.

Applicants are supposed to hold a doctoral degree in Japanese Studies and/or social sciences. Qualified candidates have fieldwork experience in Japan, a high-profile publication record of monographs and journal articles that clearly demonstrates their international visibility, and working experience at a university or research institute focusing on Japan. They command over the expertise and the respective didactic skills needed to teach classes at all levels of the curriculum (which requires high level of German language proficiency). We prefer applicants having a strong educational background in social sciences that enables them to teach research methods, either on quantitative survey techniques and statistical data analysis, or on qualitative data analysis.

We are particularly encouraging applicants that can contribute to our research projects in rural Japan and social well-being. We also welcome applicants who are successful with grant applications and have excelled in international research collaboration. Candidates are required to participate in administrative and committee work. The University of Vienna offers a stimulating work environment and advanced training opportunities. The Department hosts one of the largest Japanese studies program in Europe. We place particular importance on exchange, team work and mutual support.

Applications should be sent via the Job Center to the University of Vienna (http://jobcenter.univie.ac.at <http://jobcenter.univie.ac.at/>) no later than May 16, 2019 and be referenced to the identification number 9636.
