I'm an award-winning filmmaker and professor currently based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and I'm looking for a assistant/translator for 3-4 weeks in Tohoku in July 2013, when I will be shooting the last part for my feature-length documentary THE NEW NORMAL.

The film follows three people whose lives have been transformed by the tsunami disaster, over the cause of two years. We meet a media-savvy monk on a messianistic mission to decontaminate the town, a provincial teenage rock star, and a zen priest--who remain in his contaminated temple, tending to the unidentified remains of the dead. Life on the metaphoric edge, we begin to understand, is about the trauma of cataclysm, the unseen threat of radiation, a growing distrust of existing power structures--but it's also about moments of absurdity and unexpected beauty. The project is supported by Goethe Institute Kyoto, Harvard University, DEFA Foundation Berlin and the LEF-Foundation New England, but has a very small budget.

I spent last spring already more then three month in the area and shot very powerful material that I'm currently editing. It would be great if you could reach out under my behalf to find a person, who would like to collaborate on this. The potential assistant should be able to translate japanese to english or german.
Drivers license and film experience would be great. The job will be payed, but the promise is to create
something meaningful together.

For any further information, please contact me.
I can send details and film samples anytime.

Thank you very much for your help. I look forward hearing from you.

All best,
Thorsten
