[SSJ: 8030] Collection of Japanese papers on the 3.11 disasters

From: Tom Gill
Date: 2013/04/04

Dear all,

On behalf of co-editors Brigitte Steger and David Slater, I am delighted to announce the publication of our Japanese-language collection of papers on the 3.11
disasters:

HIGASHI NIHON DAI-SHINSAI NO JINRUIGAKU
Tsunami, Genpatsu Jiko to Hisaisha no 'Sono Go'

ANTHROPOLOGY OF THE GREAT EASTERN JAPAN DISASTER The Tsunami, the Nuclear Accident and what happened afterwards to the victims

The book is published by Jinbun Shoin of Kyoto http://www.jimbunshoin.co.jp/book/b108281.html

There is an English edition in press at Peter Lang, provisionally entitled Japan Copes with Calamity:
Ethnographies of the Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Disasters of March 2011. We hope to see it published later this year.

There will be a launch party for the Japanese edition at the Meiji Gakuin campus in Shirokane, Tokyo on Friday April 12, 6pm to 8pm. It'll be on the 2nd floor of the Kinenkan (a charming octagonal Meiji era building opposite the chapel, just inside the main gate). All are welcome. The editors will all be there, along with some of the paper authors and several Tohoku people from the disaster zone. Tohoku sake and light refreshments will be served. The book will be on sale at a discount price of 2,500 yen. (It is 3,045 yen in
bookstores.)
There are frequent buses from Shinagawa and Meguro stations; it takes about 10 minutes and you get out at Meijigakuin-mae.
There is no need to book in advance, but if you plan to attend, it would make the planning go more smoothly if you let us know in advance by phone or e-mail to the Research Institute of the Faculty of International Studies, Meiji Gakuin University:

Phone: 045-863-2267
E-mail: iism[at]k.meijigakuin.ac.jp

Please forward freely, especially to Japanese-reading friends.

Sincerely,

Tom Gill
