Speaker: Ambassador Masatoshi Muto, Ex Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Korea
Theme: “South Korea’s Current Situation and Japan-South Korea Relations”

Ambassador Masatoshi Muto will deliver a lecture on South Korea’s current situation and the Japan-South Korea relations that he observed as a Japanese ambassador to South Korea. He will talk about the driving force that allowed South Korea to make such progress, the problems it faces now, and its economic relations and human and cultural exchange with Japan, which is increasing rapidly. He will also discuss the conflict over issues regarding history and the territorial dispute between Japan and South Korea that remains unsolved despite the close relations between the two countries. On the basis of the analysis of these issues, he will touch on how Japan-South Korea relations are expected to develop in the future.

Since its establishment in 1997, the National Graduate
Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), as the only
graduate school in Japan specializing in policy
research, has promoted education and research on a wide
range of policy issues.
Utilizing our vast policy network, this Forum invites
leaders from various fields including government,
academia and business, as well as staff from our own
faculty, to deliver lectures on current policy
concerns.
The Forum welcomes attendance of GRIPS faculty and
students as well as participants from outside the
