Dear SSJ Forum members,

SUMMARY
The March 2011 earthquake and tsunami has had a major impact on both those living in Japan's Tohoku region and the nation's nuclear energy industry. Nuclear power provides a significant proportion of Japan's domestic electricity requirements, but the Fukushima nuclear disaster and TEPCO's and the government's management of the crisis in the days and months following the earthquake has created an environment of uncertainty regarding nuclear power in Japan.
In an interview with NBR, Daniel Aldrich (Purdue
University) assesses the recovery effort in the Tohoku region, the subsequent public and government response to the crisis, and how the evolving situation at the Fukushima facility may affect the nation's energy future.

questions:
- What is the status of reconstruction efforts in the earthquake and tsunami-affected regions of Japan?
