Since the overthrow of President Ben-Ali of Tunisia, the entire Arab world has been undergoing major upheavals, some peaceful, others violent. These events have global implications, ranging from their impact on other autocracies to the geopolitics of the Persian Gulf and its oil fields.

In East Asia, the Chinese Communist Party has clearly reacted with great concern since the start of the Jasmine Revolutions. For Japan, instability in the region could have a major impact on its economy.

Dr. Darwisheh will help us understand what is happening in the Arab World and analyze what are the major drivers of change in a process that is only starting.

Housam Darwisheh is a researcher at Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO). He earned a PhD in 2010 from the Graduate School of Area and Cultural Studies, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
His research focuses on Comparative Politics, Middle Eastern Politics (Egypt in particular) and Social Movements. For further information Dr. Darwisheh please visit.
