EIJS is pleased to invite you to our upcoming seminar on "The Japanese Consumer Dynamics" hosted by four speakers from both academia and the field of professional marketing.
Japanese consumers have changed dramatically over the past fifteen years. From the big spenders of the late 80s bubble economy, they have become price-conscious, wealthy and sophisticated shoppers, demanding the world’s best service and most innovative products. The presentation discusses the development of Japanese consumerism, particularities of Japanese consumer behaviour and consumer rights, new

consumer groups and emerging trends in the Japanese market.

Professor Parissa Haghirian will provide the initial overview of subject; Professor Emmanuel J. Chéron’s presentation will cover the Silver Market (older consumers) in Japan and the purchasing power of the silver market will be discussed. Mr. Aaron Toussaint will talk about "Male Order: Resonating with Today’s Young Male Japanese Consumers" He will touch upon the preferences of the new Japanese male which have created new business opportunities while closing the door on old ones. Professor Stephanie Assman’s presentation topic is "Beyond Sushi and Tempura: An Overview of the Japanese Food Market." We will hear an overview of food retailers in Japan in light of demographic and lifestyle changes.
In consideration of the devastating natural disaster from the March earthquake, particular emphasis will be given to the food safety and food self-sufficiency in Japan, which struggles with a low self-sufficiency rate of 40 percent and has been alarmed by a number of food safety scandals in the past decade.
