You might find some good citations in Prof. Eiko Siniawer's book titled "Ruffians, Yakuza, Nationalists (2008). There are also other books tangentially related (e.g. Tokyo Underworld) with citations on the subject, but my guess is that the sources are mostly journalistic in nature.
