The Faculty for Social Sciences and Philosophy at Leipzig University, Germany,
has a vacancy in the Institute of Political Science. A
C H A I R (C3)
in POLITICAL SCIENCE, with its main emphasis on International Relations
especially between industrial societies, is now vacant.
In addition to the qualified representation of each taught subject and special
areas of research, the applicant must undertake such duties as stated in
paragraph #49 (*) of the Saxon University Laws (SHG) dated August 4, 1993. The
applicant must also fulfill the requirements under paragraph #51 SHG (**).
Ifcivil service requirements cannot be met, prospective employment can be
offered as "non-tenured".
The curriculum's requirements would best be fulfilled by someone specializing in
(political and economic) relations either between Japan and the United States or
between Japan and Western Europe.
Although the position being life-time (***), the Institute would also consider
applicants who are seeking only temporary employment in Leipzig.
It is possible to teach either in English or in German. A longer-term
collaboration with the University and its self-administration would require
knowledge of the German language.

(*) paragraph #49 of the SHG specifies the obligations of the professors in
the fields of research, teaching and academic self-administration. (**)
According to paragraph #51 of the SHG, to qualify for a university
lecturership the applicant must have a doctoral degree, teaching experienceand
additional scientific awards which can be testified by a habilitation or other
scientific achievements. (***) Life-time position means that the holder of the
position can leave
at his will at any time, but can also stay if he wishes to do so.
