Call for Prize Submissions from the Modern Japan History Association

Dear Colleagues,
The Modern Japan History Association (www.mjha.org) would like to invite nominations for our annual awards: the 2027 MJHA Book Prize, the 2027 F. Hilary Conroy First Book Prize, and the 2027 Charlotte J. Conroy Dissertation Prize.
Please help us get the word out and make sure worthy books and dissertations are nominated. MJHA members and presses can nominate books and dissertations directly at mjha.org. Authors do not necessarily have to be MJHA members to receive full consideration.
The 4th annual Modern Japan History Association Book Prize will be awarded in early 2027 to a book first published in 2025 substantially illuminating the history of modern and contemporary Japan (1868-present) and/or the historical roots of modern Japanese society and culture. Provided this condition is met, books from any academic discipline and books covering earlier eras of history are eligible. For more information click HERE.
The 3rd annual F. Hilary Conroy First Book Prize will be awarded in early 2027 to a book first published in 2025 by a first-time author substantially illuminating the history of modern and contemporary Japan (1868-present) and/or the historical roots of modern Japanese society and culture.. Conroy Dissertation Prize will be awarded in early 2026 to a dissertation filed in 2025 substantially illuminating the history of modern and contemporary Japan (1868-present) and/or the historical roots of modern Japanese society and culture.. Even if you do not have a book or dissertation from 2025, please help us get the word out to those who do, as well as to your editors and publicists at book publishers and presses. The MJHA is committed to awarding these prizes every year for the foreseeable future, so please keep them on your radar for in-progress books and dissertations.
