India, Japan & FOIP - 10 Feb, public conference, Tokyo
The Embassy of India in Tokyo and the Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS) are pleased to co-host a special seminar titled "India, Japan, and 10 Years of the Free & Open Indo-Pacific Concept."
The seminar will bring together leading scholars and policy practitioners to reflect on the current state of India-Japan relations and to mark ten years since the articulation of Japan's Free & Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision in 2016. While formally advanced under former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the intellectual foundations of FOIP can be traced to his landmark 2007 address to the Indian Parliament, "Confluence of the Two Seas."
Distinguished experts and policymakers will assess the evolution of FOIP over the past decade, examine its contribution to India-Japan strategic convergence, and discuss future directions for sustaining a resilient and prosperous bilateral partnership that supports peace, stability, and regional prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
