The liberal international order is now facing significant turbulence. The rise of China and the intensification of U.S.-China rivalry, the emergence of America First policies, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and a chain of regional conflicts symbolised by the Gaza crisis--all of these developments have made the world increasingly uncertain, casting the future of the international order into profound ambiguity.
Drawing on Quantum International Relations Theory, Professor Chun will discuss the future of the world order and regional political systems, based on insights from his newly published book.

About the speaker:
CHUN, Chaesung is a Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University. He is also the President of the East Asia Institute (EAI). He was the President of the Korean Association of International Studies in 2021, a Director of Center for International Studies at Seoul National University, and a Vice President of the Institute of Peace and Unification Studies at Seoul National University. He was a visiting professor at Keio University in Tokyo from 2017-2018 and 2010-2011. He has been a member of the Advisory Committee to the Ministry of Unification, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, ROK Army and Navy. He received his BA and MA degrees from the Seoul National University, and his PhD degree from Northwestern University in the field of International Relations Theory.
His major books include The Future World Political Order and A Theory of Topos (2025), Sovereignty and International Relations: Northeast Asian International Relations Theory: Politics among Incomplete Sovereign States (2020), Sovereignty and International Relations: Modern Sovereign States System and the Evolution of the Empire (2019), Is Politics Moral: Reinhold Niebuhr's Transcendental Realism (2012), and East Asian International Relations (2011).
