New Open Access Book: Fukushima Legacies

From: Loeschke, Ayaka <ayaka.loeschke@fau.de>

Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the publication of my new monograph, Fukushima Legacies: National Advocacy and Mothers Against Radiation (Ayaka Löschke), published by Springer as an Open Access book. You can download it here: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-658-49655-5
The book examines over a decade of civil society organizations' (CSOs') activities in response to radiation-related government policies, such as the introduction of the 20 mSv annual exposure limit and the use of personal dosimeters.
Through an analysis of the CSOs' trial-and-error efforts, this book reveals effective strategies and potential pitfalls that influence their advocacy and organizational sustainability, both of which can be considered legacies of post-Fukushima activism.
Particular attention is given to the legislative process and policy implementation through a Diet Member Bill (giin rippō) initiated at the request of the CSOs.
Based on 55 qualitative interviews, the book also shows that many of the mothers involved in radiation-related advocacy were already politically interested before Fukushima and had professional work experience in publishing, IT, or nursing.
Sincerely,
Ayaka Löschke
