Dear Colleagues,

Please allow me to bring your attention to the upcoming Toshiba International Foundation funded project "Ethnic Communities Within Global Japanese Studies -- Encountering Diversity in a Multi-Ethnic, Multi-Cultural Japan" an International Collaborative Research-Networking Talk Series at Ritsumeikan University. The events in this series will be conducted in a hybrid format.
Event #1
Book Talk "Ethnic Enclaves in Contemporary Japan" (Springer Press, 2021)

Date: October 31, 2025 (Friday)
Time: 18:00-20:00 (JST)

The inaugural session features an important book contribution titled Ethnic Enclaves in Contemporary Japan (Springer Press, 2021) by Yoshitaka Ishikawa and chapter contributors. Their interdisciplinary research and expertise highlight geographical, sociological, and historical formations of ethnic enclaves (Korean, Filipino, Brazilian, Turkish, Bolivian, Laotian, and Afghan) in various regions of Japan.

This initial session ignites a series of International Collaborative Research-Networking Talks on contemporary Japan's growing multi-ethnic and diverse communities, adding a further fundamental dimension to Japanese Studies within a global context.
