With only four years remaining until the deadline for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), progress on Goal 5, "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls," is significantly behind. According to the World Economic Forum's report "Global Gender Gap Index 2025," at the current pace, it is estimated that closing the global gender gap will take 123 years.

In this session, Director Naoe Yakiya of the UN Women Japan Liaison office will speak about the current situation and challenges of gender equality around the world, engage in discussions on realizing an inclusive society, and introduce UN Women's initiatives.

This webinar will be moderated by GLIF's unit leader, Professor Sawako Shirahase.

Speaker:
Director Naoe Yakiya is the current Director of the UN Women Japan Liaison Office. She has 23 years of experience at the World Food Programme (WFP), and has held various positions in humanitarian and development assistance, including leadership roles at WFP headquarters and in Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone, Myanmar, Japan, and Somalia.

Professor Sawako Shirahase is the Project Professor and Unit Leader at the Endowed Research Unit on Inclusive Glocal Future Society, Department of Global Agricultural Sciences, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo.
