Workshop Crossing Borders, Shaping Careers (DIJ Tokyo, Sept 26, 2025)

Dear colleagues,

I warmly invite you to the workshop "Crossing Borders, Shaping Careers: Internationalisation of Education and Labour in Contemporary Japan", to be held on September 26, 2025 (14:00-19:00 JST) at the German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ), Tokyo.

The workshop will bring together scholars to examine the effects of internationalisation on education, labour markets, and career paths in Japan. The program is structured around three thematic sessions:

  • Session 1:Transnational Paths: Education, Mobility, and Labour Market Integration of Japanese Nationals
  • Session 2:From Graduation to Career: Pathways of Highly Skilled Immigrants in Japan
  • Session 3:Precarity, Identity, and Cultural Capital: Immigrant and Second-Generation Careers in Japan

Contributions from the workshop will form the basis for a forthcoming special issue of the Social Science Japan Journal (SSJJ).
