Abstract
This academic panel explores the evolving role of election observation and democracy assistance in fostering democratic resilience and integrity in electoral processes. As global challenges to democratic norms intensify--including disinformation, authoritarian resurgence, and declining public trust--election observation missions and democracy support initiatives remain critical instruments for promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. Drawing from case studies and regional experiences, panelists will address the intersection between observation and broader democracy assistance, including capacity-building, legal reform, civic education, and media development. By engaging practitioners and scholars, this panel aims to assess the impact of election observation on electoral credibility and democratic consolidation, while identifying opportunities for innovation and improved coordination across stakeholders. Ultimately, the panel seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of how election-related support can navigate emerging threats while reinforcing democratic norms in diverse political contexts.
