"Culture, Cost, and Credibility: Rethinking Learning in the Modern Workplace", presented by Dr. Katie Harrington and Dr. Drian Glyde

In the first half of this session, Dr. Harrington will discuss the landscape of workplace learning, contrasting formal and informal methods while highlighting organizational culture's pivotal role in each. She'll raise timely questions about how organizations can make training applicable, affordable, and transferable. Attendees will walk away with a clearer sense of when learning initiatives matter most and how to position them for genuine impact.

 

Building on that foundation, Dr. Glyde will shift the focus to ethical decision‑making. He will examine whether structured ethics instruction can truly shape behavior, and how practice can help balance empathy with analytical reasoning. He'll explore practical strategies for strengthening legitimacy and relevance in any setting; academic, professional, or personal. Join us to gain fresh insights, spark meaningful conversations, and leave with actionable ideas for cultivating learning environments that elevate both competence and character.

 

Dr. Katie Harrington is Assistant Professor of Psychology at Virginia Wesleyan University. Dr. Drian Glyde is Assistant Professor of Management, Business, and Economics at Virginia Wesleyan University. They are visiting professors at Lakeland University Japan for the Summer 2025 semester.
