AJJ Conference this weekend

Dear SSJ Forum members,

This weekend sees the annual meeting of AJJ -- Anthropology of Japan in Japan. We will be gathering at the Aobayama campus of Tōhoku University in Sendai, November 30 to December 1. I attach the short and long versions of the programme. There will be 15 panels with some 50 papers, a Saturday night reception and a showing of the film, The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom. It is not too late to register for the conference -- see the details on the AJJ home page:
Registration on the day is also possible. Ours is a small and friendly conference, mingling veteran anthropologists with up-and-coming young researchers. The latter have the chance to win the biggest prize on offer at any anthropology conference in Japan (if not the world...): the Befu Prize, worth ¥250,000. The Bookman prize, worth ¥50,000 for an excellent presentation in the field of disabilities or marginalized groups, is also up for grabs.
I hope to see some of you there.
Cheerio for now,

Tom Gill
