October 24 Free Lecture at Lakeland University Japan: "Japan's Momentous Decade"
From: Roger Grabowski <grabowski@japan.lakeland.edu>
Date: 2024/10/08
"2013-2023: Japan's Momentous Decade", presented by Brad Glosserman
This lecture (in English) will be held Thursday, October 24at 7:00 PM at Lakeland University in Ryogoku, Tokyo. It will also be streamed via Zoom.
It's been a momentous decade for Japan. When Abe Shinzo returned to the prime minister's office in 2013, he embarked on a program to revamp Japan's international profile, and in so doing reshape the domestic consensus surrounding foreign and security policy. In his new book, Japan's Rise as a Regional and Global Power, 2013-2023: A Momentous Decade, co-edited with Gilbert Rozman, Brad Glosserman traces that transformation, exploring the forces driving the new thinking in Tokyo and how that change is impacting relations with key security and economic partners. Join us as Mr. Glosserman explains that process and see if he can reconcile it with the arguments he made five years ago in Peak Japan.
Brad Glosserman is deputy director of and visiting professor at the Tama University Center for Rule Making Strategies and senior advisor for Pacific Forum in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a regular columnist for the Japan Times.
