Special Issue Abstract:
Is Japan forging a new economic model through digital and green transformation to overcome its 'lost decades' stagnation and demographic hurdles? Are initiatives like Society 5.0, DX, GX, 'new/sustainable capitalism', and Digital Garden City Nation a well-meaning collection of ideas, or do they signify a coherent and potentially revolutionary direction worthy of global attention? These critical questions were the focus of a conference held in Oxford in February 2023, leading to the 11 articles featured in this special issue. Contributions from European and Japanese academics and policy makers highlight significant changes and ongoing tensions in corporate governance, innovation, public policy, and human resources, suggesting possible new directions for Japanese capitalism.
Speakers:
- Sébastien LECHEVALIER, FFJ-EHESS
- Brieuc MONFORT, Sophia University, FFJ-EHESS associate researcher
- Saori SHIBATA, The University of Sheffield
- Franz WALDENBERGER, German Institute for Japanese Studies
- Hugh WHITTAKER, University of Oxford
- Fangmiao ZOU, University of Oxford
We look forward to your participation in this event.
Best regards,
Céline CALIARO (Ms.)
