The insurance industry is facing unprecedented challenges today. With climate change, demographic shifts leading to longer lifespans, and technology reshaping daily life are pushing traditional insurance models to evolve. Join Albert Chu, Group CDO and CEO of SOMPO Digital Lab, on how SOMPO, a leading force in Japan's insurance and nursing care industry, is facing and transforming the insurance and nursing care industries. This session will explore the changing dynamics of risk, security and wellbeing, highlighting SOMPO's strategic initiatives and journey in a future where insurance is not just about mitigating risks but is a proactive force for wellbeing in a happier, more secure society.

Albert Chu serves as the Group Chief Digital Officer and Senior Vice President at SOMPO Holdings, leading SOMPO's global digital strategy. Additionally, Chu also heads the SOMPO Digital Lab in Silicon Valley, focusing on creating partnerships in insurtech, healthtech, Web3 and AI. With over 40 years of experience in Silicon Valley, Chu has a track record of pioneering innovating technologies and products. His leadership experience spans startups tp global corporations, including Apple, AT&T, PalmSource and ACCESS. Chu has been an executive at SOMPO since 2020 and is based in Silicon Valley.
 
Ulrike Schaede is Professor of Japanese Business at GPS, UC San Diego, and the Director of JFIT. Her research focuses on Japan's changing corporate strategies, including business culture, change management, and business organization. Her 2020 book "The Business Reinvention of Japan" analyzes how Japanese companies are responding to the rise of China and the changing global competition.
