The Modern Japan History Association (mjha.org) is extremely pleased to announce that we are now accepting nominations for the 2025 MJHA prizes for books and dissertations on Japan.

The 2nd annual Modern Japan History Association Book Prize will be awarded in early 2025 to a book first published in 2023 substantially illuminating the history of modern and contemporary Japan (1868-present), as well as books exploring the historical roots of modern Japanese society and culture. Provided this condition is met, books from any academic discipline and books covering earlier eras of history are eligible. For more information click HERE.

In a similar vein, the 2nd annual Modern Japan History Association Dissertation Prize will be awarded in early 2025 to a dissertation filed in 2023 substantially illuminating the history of modern and contemporary Japan (1868-present), as well as dissertations exploring the historical roots of modern Japanese society and culture. Provided this condition is met, dissertations from any academic discipline and books covering earlier eras of history are eligible.
