From: Keiko Nishimura Galbraith <kaymegu@gmail.com>
Date: 2023/08/18

Dear Colleagues,

Apologies for cross-posting.
We would like to invite you to the Symposium event on Japanese Cold War-era science fiction on August 27.

-------------------
Symposium: Politics, SF, and Cold War Culture in Japan

Centering on Japanese science fiction before and during the Cold War, this symposium will focus on interactions between SF and the era's shifting politics. Presentations on manga, SF magazines, and literature will examine how popular culture reflected the sense of possibility as well as the political closure that emerged between the late 1940s and the early 1990s.

The first part of this symposium will be an open panel, followed by a bilingual Q&A.

The second part of this symposium will take place in a closed workshop format, where respondents will give direct feedback to the presenters. We invite potential respondents to contact the organizers via email (see reverse) by August 20. No contact is needed to participate in the open portion of the symposium.

Location: Keio Univ, Mita Campus, East Bldg, Open Lab (4F)
Time: August 27 10:30 ~ 12:00
Contact: Michael Larson mwlarson@keio.jp
