We are pleased to announce that the Sustainable Co-creative Programme (SCOPE) of the Faculty of Sustainability at Hosei University is accepting applications for a three-year full-time (non-tenured/non-tenure track) position as a Lecturer in environmental sociology and/or environmental anthropology.

The Faculty of Sustainability Studies at Hosei University invites applicants for a three-year, full-time (non-tenured/non-tenure track) position as a Lecturer in environmental sociology and/or environmental anthropology. The Lecturer is expected to teach courses in English and to participate in the management of the Sustainability Co-Creation Programme (SCOPE), an English-based degree program within the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, established in 2016.  

Contracts:
1)    The Lecturer position is full-time, but non-tenured with a limited three-year contract* (Statement revised on June 26, 2023 regarding contract terms) 
2)    The starting date is April 1, 2024.

Duties:
1)    Teaching courses for SCOPE, including four lecture courses, a seminar (zemi or kenkyūkai), a collaborative seminar course ("Co-creative Workshop"), and "Field Workshop." The four lecture courses include "Subsistence, Resource Use and Sustainability," "Japanese Rural Society," and "Research Methods." Please see the details as described below. All courses will be conducted in English.  
2)    Participating in committee work and other duties for the management of SCOPE, including entrance exams. 

Qualifications:
1)     Excellence in academic achievement with a proven research record.
2)     Doctorate, PhD, or equivalent experience in environmental sociology and/or environmental anthropology or related academic field.
3)     Experience in teaching courses in English.
4)     Experience and skills in assisting international students, and supporting international education programs.
5)     High level of Japanese proficiency preferable (for participating in committee work).   

Compensation
Salary:  
-- 430,000 yen/month
-- No annual salary increases, no bonus, and no retirement payment
-- Commuting allowance provided
-- Other allowances based on the regulations of the university

Social Insurance: health insurance, employee pension, unemployment insurance 

Research allowance: based on the regulations of the university

2)    Descriptions of your experiences in teaching in English as well as syllabi of courses that you have taught in English

3)    Three primary publications and their summaries (100 to 150 words each)

4)    An essay summarizing your academic and teaching experience (500-700 words)

5)    An essay explaining your future plans for research and teaching (500-700 words) 

6)    Syllabi of 4 courses: 1) "Subsistence, Resource Use and Sustainability," "Japanese Rural Society," and "Research Methods"; and 2) a course where the candidate will cover issues and topics pertaining to environmental sociology and/or anthropology and sustainability. Each syllabus should include a course schedule (100 minutes per class, 14 classes per semester).

Selection Process:
After documentary screening, short-listed candidates will be invited to an interview.
