Japan Zoominar @ UC San Diego: "Flying Cars and Japan's Startup Innovation Ecosystem for DX Air Mobility" with Asa Quesenberry

Wed, May 17, 8:00-9:00 am JST (Tue, May 16, 4:00-5:00 pm Pacific)

Japan is a frontrunner in flying car technologies and associated smart city infrastructure tech. In this conversation, we hear from the Founder of Skyscape, a startup company in Osaka that pushes vertiport facilities and other aspects of Advanced Air Mobility. We will discuss Japan's role in developing global flying car technologies, the startup companies that work in this space in Japan, and more generally the innovation environment for cutting-edge, deep-tech startups in Japan.

Asa Quesenberry is Founder and CEO, SkyScape 株式会社.  He is an American-born entrepreneur based in Osaka. After working previously within the US and Canadian drone industries, Asa founded SkyScape 株式会社 in Osaka 2019. SkyScape is a startup company focused on the development of aviation infrastructure facilities. These facilities known as "vertiports" support the operations of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) services including new-age air taxis, autonomous cargo drones, medical deliveries and many more.

Ulrike Schaede is Professor of Japanese Business at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy and the director of JFIT. Her research focuses on Japan's changing corporate strategies, including business culture, change management, and business organization. Her 2020 book "The Business Reinvention of Japan" analyzes how Japanese companies are responding to the rise of China and the changing global competition.
