the Department of East Asian Studies - Japanese Studies at University of Vienna would like to draw your attention to the upcoming hybrid u:japan lecture, held in Japanese:

Tsuboi Hideto:
"Kyanpu bungaku no kousou: Kyuu manshuu, Shiberia sonota - Conception of Camp-Literature: Old Manchuria, Siberia and Others"

Date and time: Thursday, March 2, 2023, 18:30~20:00 (CET, UTC/GMT +1h)
The Zoom Meeting will be open from 18:15 (CET).
Max. 50 participants (on site) + max. 300 participants (online)

In his lecture, held in Japanese, the renown literary scholar Tsuboi Hideto (Waseda University, Tokyo) analyses the post war production of Japanese literature in the former colony Manchuria and soviet Siberia and develops the concept of kyanpu bungaku „camp-literature". Besides stories from his fieldtrip where he visited the remains of historic sites (now in Russia and China) his talk features besides others the following works of literature: Kaeru shouten [The Ascension of a Frog], 1951 by Kinoshita Junji, Shiberia shishuu [Siberian Poetry], 1952 by Nagao Tatsuo, Furyoki [Taken Captive], 1948 by Oooka Shouhei and Sancho Pansa no kikyou [Homecoming of Sancho Panza], 1963 by Ishihara Yoshirou.

This will be a hybrid event, both live at the Campus of the University of Vienna and online via Zoom. Live participation is available for a limited number of 50 people.
