the Department of East Asian Studies - Japanese Studies at University of Vienna would like to draw your attention to the upcoming hybrid u:japan lecture:

"Nō from Anthropological Perspective - Zeami vs present, tradition vs practice -"

Date and time: Thursday, January 19, 2023, 18:30~20:00 (CET, UTC/GMT +1h)
The Zoom Meeting will be open from 18:15 (CET).
Max. 50 participants (on site) + max. 300 participants (online)

In this hybrid lecture Ivan Rumánek (Masaryk University) analyzes the theoretical introduction, the nō drama, including its farce companion kyōgen, from the broader anthropological perspective. Its various aspects are characterised according to biological, social, cultural and linguistic anthropology.
The second part focuses on embodiment and performativity as observed in amateur nō training and in the practice of using the nō mask.

This will be a hybrid event, both live at the Campus of the University of Vienna and online via Zoom. Live participation is available for a limited number of 50 people.
