From:Shinichi Aizawa <isaac@classic.email.ne.jp>
Date: 2022/12/28

Dear members of the SSJ-Forum,

We are pleased to announce that our international research team (Japan and Germany) will organize the following one-day hybrid workshop in Berlin.

"Rethinking Social Collectivity in the Japanese Society from the Viewpoint of Modern Educational History"

Comparative research and Japanese studies have often viewed Japan as a collective society. We believe that this type of social collectivity has resulted from the modernization and industrialization processes. We have been preparing presentations about this formation process and exploring its relationship with collective education.

Date and time: Friday, 6th January 2023, 10:00~17:00 (CET)
The Webex Meeting will be open from 9:50 (CET).
Seats onsite in Berlin are very limited. Therefore we strongly recommend online participation.

Topics and Speakers include

  • "The Social Historical Context of Collective Education in Japan in the Postwar Era"

Shinichi Aizawa (Sophia University)

  • "Collective Education and Group Competition (hankyōsō) in Japanese schools: An implementation of Makarenko's ideas or a Japanese creation?"
