Japan Zoominar @ UC San Diego: "The Japanese Welfare State and the Pandemic," with Margarita Estévez-Abe
Wed, Nov 16, 9:00-10:00 am JST (Tue, Nov 15, 4:00-5:00 pm Pacific)
The SARS-COV-2 pandemic has revealed a lot about the state of welfare states in advanced industrial countries. How has Japan fared in comparison to its peers? Can we learn any lessons from Japan? What lessons should Japan learn from other countries? Japan has been able to protect its elderly population from the pandemic but did not do a good job of protecting younger women. This event explores the pros and cons of the Japanese welfare state.
