Japan Zoominar @ UC San Diego: "Media and Crisis Communications in Japan" with David Wagner
Wed, May 31, 8:00-9:00 am JST (Tue, June 1, 4:00-5:00 pm Pacific)
Since we now all have cell phones with cameras, each of us is a journalist. This poses new concerns for media organizations and spokespersons, and it challenges reputation management for everyone. While the underlying challenges are global, and thus the same everywhere, specific applications on how to frame and deliver communications can have local flavors. We will parse out the commonalities and regional differences in this conversation on crisis handling and media management.
David Wagner is a leading global media management specialist. Based in Tokyo, he advises spokespersons on strategy, messaging, and delivery, and he works with public and private sector leaders to fine-tune their media engagements. David has assisted more than 550 organizations around the world and trained 4,000+ spokespersons.
Ulrike Schaede is Professor of Japanese Business at GPS, UC San Diego, and the Director of JFIT. Her research focuses on Japan's changing corporate strategies, including business culture, change management, and business organization. Her 2020 book "The Business Reinvention of Japan" analyzes how Japanese companies are responding to the rise of China and the changing global competition.
