[SSJ: 11773] Call for papers

From: Marie Söderberg <Marie.Soderberg@hhs.se>

Dear list members,

The European Japan Advanced Research Network (EJARN) will hold its 2022 annual conference entitled "EU-Japan Relations: Platforms of collaboration within a rules based world order" in Pavia and in Florence organized by University of Pavia and the European University Institute on June 15-18, 2022.

(For more info on EJARN see https://www.hhs.se/en/research/institutes/eijs/ejarn/ <https://www.hhs.se/en/research/institutes/eijs/ejarn/>).

The conference aims at bringing together academics, government officials and business representatives for in-depth discussions on the bilateral EU-Japan relations such as the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) as well as the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA). The conference focuses on EU-Japan cooperation in wide areas of social sciences such as; trade, energy security, connectivity, climate change, cyber security, aid and international relations.

With ongoing challenges against the liberal world order, the EU and Japan see the EPA and the SPA as essential platforms for promoting a rules-based international order formed around agreements and supranational bodies such as WTO. At the same time, these agreements underline the shared fundamental values and principles such as the rule of law, a strong commitment to human rights and joint support for the UN sustainable development goals.

We invite papers within the broader spectrum of social science on EU-Japan relations in a changing international environment as well as papers on various aspects of Japan and the international society.

If you are interested in participating, please send an abstract (max. 500 words) of your paper to marie.soderberg@hhs.se <mailto:marie.soderberg@hhs.se> or patrik.strom@hhs.se <mailto:patrik.strom@hhs.se>, no later than April 15.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or need further information.
