Dear SSJ Forum Members,

You are cordially invited to our online book launch and discussion.

*Title:* "The Politics of International Marriage in Japan"
*Date and time:* December 2, 2021, 14:00-16:00(JST)

*Organized and hosted by:* Asian Center, University of the Philippines
*Presenter:* Viktoriya Kim, Specially Appointed Associate Professor, School of Human Sciences, Osaka University
*Discussant:* Jean A.E. Franco, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of the Philippines, Diliman.

*Description:* Dr. Viktoriya Kim of Osaka University will discuss international marriage trends in Japan; international marriage as a public and private affair; diverse groups of foreign spouses in Japan and their unique/common issues; and the future of marriage migration studies.

In her presentation, Dr. Kim will draw on the book she co-wrote, The Politics of International Marriage in Japan, which explores the political and institutional climate surrounding international marriages in the country. It also analyzes a variety of ways in which researchers introduce international couples using a camera lens perspective. And more importantly, there are first-hand experiences of foreign (Russian-speaking and Filipino women and Western men and women) and Japanese spouses and their mixed-heritage children that are vividly presented in the book.
