Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a migrant youth (aged 18 - 30) in Japan? What are their educational and employment challenges and prospects? How do they create a sense of belonging, community, and unique identity in Japan? We invite you to join us for the official UN MGCY Japan Country Report Launch, where we will share insights from our findings on the most pressing issues of migration in Japan and their effects on youth.

The United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UN-MGCY) is an official UN mechanism for engaging communities of young people in reviewing and implementing sustainable development policies at all levels. In 2020-21, the UN MGCY Japan Working Group on Migration was founded as an official civil society stakeholder for the Asia-Pacific Regional Review of the Implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) hosted by UN-ESCAP in March 2021. The GCM is an intergovernmental, comprehensive and holistic agreement covering all dimensions of international migration under the auspices of the UN.

The UN MGCY Japan Working Group on Migration conducted extensive research on youth-led and youth-focused migration issues and organizations with key stakeholders, including: NGOs, migration specialists, academics, public officials, and young migrants. The research results were compiled in the UN MGCY Japan Country Report, presented at the GCM Asia-Pacific Regional Review, and published by UN-ESCAP.

Join us to find out about our next steps and explore potential collaborations for youth empowerment!

We encourage you to share this event amongst your networks.
