The role is a combined Teaching and Research Fellow. There are some teaching and research assistance requirements that come with the role, but in practice there is also a lot of freedom for the role holder to develop their own teaching and research and publications profile. PAIS at Warwick is very supportive of early career academics and previous role holders have gone on to gain permanent assistant professor positions at the University of St. Andrews and University of Sheffield.

Fixed-term contract - 1 September 2021 - 31 August 2022.
36.5 hours per week.
Grade 6 salary - £30,942 - £40,332.
Grade 7 salary - £41,526 - £49,553.

Applications are invited for a Teaching and Research Fellowship (FA6)/ Senior Teaching and Research Fellowship (FA7) in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick. The role is based in the UK and is a fixed-term contract for 12 months from 1 September 2021. The appointment will either be made at FA6 or FA7 of the University of Warwick salary scale; this will be based on experience and candidate's ability to meet the appropriate person specification.

You will be joining one of the UK's leading Politics and International Studies departments: in the 2021 The Times/The Sunday Times Good University Guide PAIS ranked 4th of 84 UK Politics Departments; in REF2014 PAIS ranked 1st for research environment and 4th overall on research intensity; and in the 2020 National Student Survey PAIS recorded the highest overall satisfaction among our Russell Group peers.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake teaching duties (50%) in the area of International Relations (IR) and East Asia at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in order to develop and enhance its teaching reputation in this area, both internally and externally. The teaching plan has yet to be confirmed but will include teaching on PO920 International Relations of the Asia-Pacific and PO9B5 East Asian Development Policies. You will also support the supervision of dissertations in International Relations and East Asia at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will have a commitment to use and develop further e-learning tools and innovative teaching techniques within the classroom. We are looking for an exceptional and inspirational teacher who takes pride in their work.

You will balance your teaching duties with supporting the research profile (50%) of Professor Christopher Hughes during his tenure as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education. This will involve assisting in research projects related to Japanese and East Asian security and political economy. A degree of familiarity with Japanese politics and international relations and Japanese language would be highly welcome.

The successful candidate will possess an honours degree or equivalent, and a PhD or equivalent (awarded or near completion) in a relevant discipline would be desirable.
