Good Morning Books: For Families and Inspired By Service in the Western Pacific

Sarah Murphy and Amy Dobbins were inspired by their experiences as mothers living with their families in Yokosuka, Japan to create a book aimed to provide local connections for children living on or near the base. Their passion and the project's success spawned a series. In addition to "Good Morning, Yokosuka," they have published "Good Morning, Okinawa." "Good Morning, Guam" will be available soon.

Sarah and Amy will describe why they think these books are important, their collaborative experiences, and the feedback their work has received. They will also be available to discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with small business owners operating internationally from the U.S. base in Yokosuka.

Sarah Murphy earned her BA in Communications and Biblical Studies from Gordon College. After working for a Boston-based publishing house, she returned to school to pursue a degree in Culinary Arts from Le Cordon Bleu. Her passion about female entrepreneurs has recently led her to assist Landmine Design, a non-profit that helps Cambodian women receive a dignified wage by creating jewelry to keep them free from human trafficking. She was successful at moving this non-profit into the retail market at the local Yokosuka NEX where it has enabled the women in the village to have employment even during COVID. After more than a decade in San Diego and Washington, DC, she now lives in Japan with her husband Micah and their four small children.

Amy Dobbins - Marketing & Creative Design
Amy received her BFA in Advertising and Graphic Design from Sam Houston State University. She is the co-owner and designer for Madison Grace Clothing and Love, Millie Clothing. She is a professional freelance photographer and independent graphic designer. In addition to running four companies, Amy loves to cook and travel. She's lived in Europe and Asia and will soon be returning to the United States.
