The global economy is changing. Multinational corporations are opening headquarters in countries like Brazil, South Africa, and China; well-known Western universities have branches in places such as Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore; and companies like Wipro, Alibaba, and Vodacom are recognized globally. Parents respond to these changes in the global economy by crafting transnational childrearing strategies. These strategies are designed and deployed to enhance the next generation's ability to deftly handle the challenges and reap many of the rewards promised by the contemporary global economy. In other words, transnational mobility is being used as a tool for children's and youths' social mobility. However, this does not mean that the forms of mobility 'promised' by these parenting strategies are seamless. Frictions may arise due to nation-based citizenship regimes that fail to account for the unique circumstances of transnationally mobile children and youth, as well as unpredictable occurrences, such as the current Covid-19 pandemic, that highlight nation-states' continued role in regulating international travel. Therefore, some children and youth not only experience transnational mobility at a relatively young age, but they may also do so within a global context that has not yet caught up with the reality of their circumstances.

This volume of/Sociological Studies of Children and Youth/interrogates how children and youth from different class, racial, and ethnic backgrounds experience transnational mobility. We seek original, unpublished theoretical, empirical, and policy-oriented papers that highlight children's and youths' experiences of transnational mobility from a variety of disciplinary and methodological perspectives on topics including, but not limited to:

* How social class, race, and/or ethnic background shape transnational
mobility
* How transnationally mobile children and youth understand and
negotiate their positionality
* Challenges and frictions that transnationally mobile children and
youth may encounter
* Connections between transnational mobility and social mobility
* Transnational childrearing strategies*//*
